Film Guide course
We have all heard the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words; life experiences will tell us that this is genuinely an expression of truth. But more than words, exceptional photos evoke immense emotion and transport us back to a moment in time where we can relive some of our greatest memories.
In the photography world, there is a hotly debated question, which is better, film or digital? In an article recently published by Adobe, designer, photographer, and creative director Dan Rubin explains, “In the photography community, there’s a lot of confusion about the medium of film vs. digital because we talk about these approaches like they are basically the same thing.” He continues, “In reality, film and digital are like a pen and a pencil. You hold them the same way. You can accomplish very similar things with them, but they are completely different tools that are fit for different purposes.”
It is always possible to draft a pros and cons list for any decision in life. As photographers, we are entrusted to preserve the moments that mean the most and it is an absolute privilege to view our client’s lives through the lens. It is our duty to offer the client the best experience possible and often that means providing a combination of both film and digital captures.
In my experience, many photographers shy away from using film simply because they are uncomfortable with the unknown. The Film Guide was created to bring film into your wheelhouse. Throughout the course, we will teach you how to incorporate film into your wedding workflow- how to price it, guarantee high quality images, and find the equipment to perfectly balance your needs. Beyond the basics, The Film Guide will address each and every hurdle you may confront as you broaden your horizon in the world of film photography. Film allows in-depth control of the camera settings while also offering a high dynamic range. Additionally, my favorite part of using film photography is intentionality and the ability to take more purposeful photos while providing the client with a vintage style.
